A day in Los Baños

On April 8, 2003, Lola, Bosie, Quinito, Zacky Boy, Pancho and I got
in the FX and drove down to Los Baños for a day of picnicking and
kite-flying. The kite-flying did not pan out (the kites would not fly
because there was no steady breeze) but we picnicked and
shot pictures.

Lunch. As is traditional in the probinsya, the first order of business is feed the dayos. Tootsie, Bo and I went to the local South Super and got chicken legs, crab meat, spaghetti, mango juice and dessert to round out the luncheon Cutie had prepared. Here you have the ladies posing before their handiwork.

The picnickers. While the boys tried vainly to get their kites flying, the girls munched their way through the picnic basket goodies. It was a hot day. Note how Bosie is using Lola for shade.

Anaksawan la. The young once have decided to cool their heels in the car while the young ones explore the carillon and the fertility tree..

The best laid plans... The two boys are tired and are starting to get on each other's nerves. The two girls went for 'dirty ice cream' and to Bosie's dismay her dirty ice cream is literally dirty! It had flecks of grit on it. These pics were taken at the base of the carillon tower.

The Fertility Tree. According to Tootsie, the tree on the left is where many UP girls get fertilized. Ergo, its name. In the picture on the right, Tootsie decides she will hold Zacky Boy at a safe distance away from herself; he did not smell too good that day. Bosie decides she will hold the tree in the palm of her hand.

Model kuno. Bosie and Tootsie figure this a good day to learn some basics of photography so they pose for each other. This is Bosie with a backlit shot designed to give the model's hair a glowing highlight.

Model kuno II. Now Bosie takes Tootsie's picture. There is less flare in the shot because the shadow of Jed's hand is preventing the sun from striking the lens.

Depth of field and focal length. Bosie tries her hand at capturing both the carillon and the uncle. This is an exercise in the interaction of focal length and the depth of field.
