KoLL

In 1983, the IRRI Junior Researchers (IJR), the official organization of IRRI's nationally-recruited scientists, put together a retrospective. The production, which was directed by HRD newcomer Mike Ortega, was very well received. IJR's leaders, encouraged by this success, decided to develop the thespian skills of its members by sponsoring a drama workshop. Dindo Angeles of the CCP conducted the workshop at IRRI's NCBL conference room over several weekends. The graduates of this workshop, which included Mina, wife of IRRI Director-General M.S.S. Swaminathan, went on to form Kompanyang Lakas-Loob (KoLL)

KoLL mounted one or two productions at the IRRI auditorium every year, beginning with Alfrredo N. Salanga's "Heaven and All That" in 1983 and closing with Kate Kirk's"Alladin" in 1994.

'Heaven and All That' by Alfrredo Navarro Salanga has its World Premiere on the IRRI Auditorium stage in 1983.

In this picture, the saints, garbed in Food and Dormitory Services Head Miss Rebecca Pascual's best bedsheets, await their cue in the control booth of the auditorium.

'God's Favorite' by Neil Simon was an early KoLL production. The lack of polish is evident in the very minimalist set that we had.

Key for Two by John Chapman and Dave Freeman featured three IRRI spouses, Tess (Mrs Atty Pete Banzon), Pam (Mrs Dr Glenn Denning) and Françoise (Mrs Dr Prot). Guest actors included Rasky Rasco (top photo, with Tess Banzon) and Ted Arvisu (bottom, with Pam Denning.)

Ray Cooney's 'Run for Your Wife' was translated to Tagalog by Mike Ortega for KoLL. The resulting 'Kaya Ikaw, John" was one KoLL's most popular plays.

The production on the left featured Mike Ortegaa as John, Mackay Quadra as Mary, Celso Amutan as Stanley and Arby as Porterhouse
